loosely on the blade holder until
contact is made with the alien
screovs. 'I he two allen screws
should now he positioned so that
each n)al.c I,IG11'11, contact with
IIIc bearing plate (sce I:ig. 1). Note:
I he allcn screws prevent file blade
fr(m) moving away from the pipe.
If wilw og the gauge is difficult,
the allen screws have been over-
tightened.
I he tool is now prepared to re-
n)ove the gloss from the ends of
the containment pipe. After re-
rruoving the gauge, insert tile tool
into the pipe to he machined until
the blade just touches the end of
the pipe. The tool must be rotated
in a counter -clockwise direction.
Advance the tool in approximately
%" increments after each revolution
and cont:iut)e the machining oper-
ation until the gloss has been rc-
m)oved for a minhnum length of
3".
An alternate method to prepare
the end of the pipe is to sand with
'10-40 grit sandpaper to remove all
surface gloss. You may use belt
sanders or a coarse crit flat file.
The sanded length must be a mini-
mum or 3".
Pipe must fit snugly in file sock-
et of the fitting (see Fig. 4).
Pipe Assembly*
'I he containment pipe must be
positioned over the product pipe
hefore bonding the product pile.
After testing the product pipe, the
containment fittings shotild he in-
stalled and the containment sys-
tem tested. Note: Do not leave
rocks, sand, or other debris in the
containment pile and fittings.
Fvpically, the length of the
containment system is detcrn)ined
(roil) the following equation:
1. = WA1, of Product Piping) - X I - X2
Where: X I = Filling #1
X2 = Fitting #2
Refer to Fig. 2.. First deterrr)ine
the length (OAI.) of the product
pipe; then determine the fittings to
he used on each end of the product
pipe. Next, find the corresponding
mmIIbcrs in the table in lig. 2 (X1
fol the first filting and X2 for the
second fitting). subtract X I and
X2 from) the Icugth (OAL) of the
product pipe. This will be the
length (l.) of the containment
pipe. For example, if 2" product
pipe is 20 ft., 6 in. long, and you
are using a 90° elhow ou one end
and a 45° elbow on the other end,
then crit file containment pipe 20
ft., 2 in. long.
Note: since every insertion of
the primary (product) piping nr)y
vary, dry fit all secondary con-
tainment connections to ur)ke
simre that the insertion is approxi-
n)atcly 3". Be sure that the con-
tainineni pipe is not inserted too
far into file containn)ent fitting.
'Fhe glossy O.I ). of the (ontain-
ment pipe should riot be seated in
the containn)cnt fitting.
It is helpful to lay out the sys-
tem), cut, taper, and (Iry fit all
product lines. Where possible,
place coi)tainn)e►)t fitting halves
under the product fittings (see Fig.
3).
a
CI ay out syslcni
with all dry joints
('ontaitinient fittings consist of
two halves with flanges as shown
III Fig. 3. The bottom half has
threaded inserts for ease of assem-
bly.
Fittings arc assembled with ad-
hesive and 114-20 washer -head
hops that are furnished with the
fittings. The required holes are
supplied in small plastic hags. If
extra bolts arc required, purchase
from your distributor; or you can
use standard 1/4-20 hex -head
bolts. If you use standard holts,
place a flat washer on the bolt be-
fore torquing.
Containment Product Pipe
Pipe 1
X_
fOAL
X2
1_ = WA1, of Product Piping) - X1 - X2
X X
Product 90` Ell, Tee X Termination
Pipe Size coupling 45" Ell Fitting
in. mm in. mm in. min
2" 2f 54 1'X 48 4'/, 121
3" IX 48 2X 57 4X 121
4" ix 48 2X 54 6 152
Figure 2
