Phil -rite Protocol 0Gallon Capacity (Volume) Testin the 85000 Series Spill
Collector
85000 series Spill Collector 5 Gallons Capacity (Volume) Testing
Dry Capacity Testing Procedure:
This method of testing for 5 gallons minimum capacity dose not requires the use of any
liquids. This method uses measurements that have been pre -determined, tested and a
go, no-go spacer developed and supplied with each 85000 Series spill collector. Third
Party testing and verification using liquid (water) was performed by Shasta County
Department of Agriculture/Weights & Measures. See the letter in appendix A.
Equipment Required - A Phil-Tite Spill Collector Styrofoam spacer (go, no-go spacer)
used to determine that the spill collector is set for 5 gallons capacity.
Each 8510OF & 85101 -NV spill collector Phil-Tite Enterprises ships, we include a
Styrofoam spacer with a label and photo that states:
1. Insert the Styrofoam spacer into the stainless steel sleeve on top of the black spill
bucket.
2. With the Styrofoam spacer resting on top of the black spill bucket, the top of the
spacer should be at or below the rim that is below the cast iron lid to achieve 5 gallons
capacity. See the arrow in the photo.
3. During construction, this spacer should be left in place with the cast iron lid installed
to provide correct height with finish grade until concrete has been poured and set.
This Styrofoam spacer is 3 11/16" high and when placed on top of the black spill bucket,
the top of the Styrofoam spacer should be even with the stainless steel sleeve rim that
is just below where the cast iron lid goes.
This is 3/4" below the steel diamond plate manway cover at finished grade and/or at the
very top of the circular stainless steel sleeve. This dimension and the dimension of the
Styrofoam spacer equal's 4 7/16" to 4 1/2" from the top of the black spill bucket to the
very top of the stainless steel sleeve.
Use this spacer during spill collector installation to check and set the 5 gallons minimum
capacity height and when required, to verify 5 gallons capacity.
Prior to Testing:
• Remove the 14" Cast Iron cover that is over the spill collector
• Remove the Fill (black) or Vapor (orange) debris bucket.
Testing Process:
• Set the Phil-Tite Spill Collector Styrofoam Spacer (available from Phil-Tite
Enterprises, at no charge) on top of the black spill bucket.
• The top of the Phil -rite Styrofoam spacer should be level and even with or below the
rim/lip in the stainless steel sleeve. See the instructions located on the Styrofoam
spacer.
2 of 7
