The primary hazards of each are identified as follows:
Certain components of gasoline (BTE&X etc.) are known or suspected carcinogens.
The following additional hazards are expected on-site: Operation of excavator and back hoe and
various other equipment.
The following substance(s) or hazards are known or suspected to be on-site.
Substances, involved
Gasoline compounds
2. Benzene, toluene, ethyl
benzene and xylene (BTEX)
The primary hazards of each are identified as follows:
Gasoline compounds - Components of gasoline are colorless liquids with strong aromatic
petroleum hydrocarbon -like odors. They are flammable and have low solubility in water.
Exposure to these materials in excess of recommended exposure limits can cause mild eye,
nose and throat irritation and can produce a narcotic effect on the central nervous system.
Symptoms of exposure at these concentrations include headache, nausea, drowsiness,
dizziness and loss of coordination.
2.
