SITIT Site Health and Safety Plan • <br />nnnnn Service Station # 000 <br />S J WEAVER <br />CONTRACTING zzzzz XXXXX, CA ccccc <br />11.0 FIRE PREVENTION AND PROTECTION <br />Fire prevention and protection procedures are designed to prevent the occurrence of fire at our <br />facilities and job sites. The Project Foreman is responsible for ensuring that S.J. Weaver Contracting <br />Inc. employees and sub -contractors follow these fire prevention and protection procedures, and that <br />fire extinguishing equipment is available and in good working order prior to the commencement of <br />work. <br />11.1 Fire Prevention <br />Fire prevention procedures are designed to ensure that all reasonable steps are taken to preserve life and <br />property from exposure to fire hazards. The requirements listed here identify the basic elements of our fire <br />prevention program. <br />Oily rags, paper, solvents, paints and cartons should be disposed of properly. Trash should not be <br />allowed to accumulate in the work area. <br />Smoking, open flames, temporary heaters and spark -producing devices are not permitted in areas <br />where flammable or combustibles materials are stored, dispensed or used. These areas will be <br />identified and posted with "NO SMOKING signs. <br />Flammable liquids will not be stored on site. <br />Flammable liquids, including gasoline, must be dispensed from approved safety cans with self-closing <br />caps and spark screens. Flammable liquids may not be used from open containers, such as paint <br />cans or buckets. <br />All storage containers, safety cans and drums containing solvents/chemicals must be properly labeled. <br />Personnel involved in cutting and welding operations must be instructed in the fire prevention <br />requirements. The work area must be surveyed for any potential fire hazards. Flammable and <br />Combustible material must be removed or protected. A Hot Work Permit should be utilized when <br />flammable and combustible material cannot be fully removed or fully protected. The Project Foreman <br />may designate certain areas of the project as "Hot Work Area". Examples of such areas include: <br />Flammable and combustible material storage areas, potentially explosive atmospheres, active service <br />and refueling area, etc. <br />11.2 Fire Protection <br />Fire protection procedures ensure that adequate fire fighting equipment is available and emergency <br />procedures are established to minimize fire loss. Identify the address and phone number of the local fire <br />department and other emergency units, which may be summoned. <br />The Project Foreman will be responsible for determining the fire protection needs before a project <br />begins to ensure that adequate protection will be immediately available. <br />S.J.
