Limited Site Investigation Proposal Irerracan
Loves Truck Stop &Country Stores ■ Lodi, California
March 10, 2011 ■ Terracon Proposal No. 60110040
screened at this facility. Elevated PID readings were not detected and there
were no unusual odors or visual observations of staining in the soil samples
collected from the borings; therefore, soil samples were not submitted for
laboratory analysis;
■ Based on the groundwater analytical results, the groundwater samples collected
from borings B-10 and B-11 did not exhibit concentrations of benzene, toluene,
ethylbenzene, and xylenes (BTEX), methy-tert-butyl ether (MTBE) or total
petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), with the exception of the groundwater sample
collected from boring B-11, which exhibited a xylenes concentration of 0.174
milligrams per liter(mg/L); and
e Based on the findings of the limited groundwater evaluation, Terracon
recommends additional investigation to evaluate groundwater and confirm the
presence of petroleum hydrocarbons in groundwater in the vicinity of boring B-11
through the installation of groundwater monitoring wells.
The objective of the proposed LSI is to evaluate and confirm the presence of BTEX, MTBE, and
TPH (above relevant laboratory reporting limits) in the on-site soil and groundwater in the
vicinity of boring B-11 as a result of the xylenes concentration reported during the geotechnical
investigation.
Following receipt of your executed Agreement for Services and no later than 48 hours prior to
intrusive activities, Terracon will contact a utility locator (USA North) to arrange for underground
utility locates at the above referenced site. Terracon will additionally depend on assistance from
client or site contact for location of private underground utilities at the site.
Terracon will develop a generic safety plan to be used by our personnel during field services. At
this time, we anticipate that an Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Level D
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Level D work uniform consisting of hard hats, safety
glasses, protective gloves, and steel-toed boots will be required by all personnel in the work
area. It may become necessary to upgrade this level of protection, at additional cost, while
sampling activities are being conducted in the event that petroleum or chemical constituents are
encountered in soils or groundwater which presents an increased risk for personal exposure.
Soil Borings
A total of three soil borings will be advanced along the western boundary of the site. The soil
borings will be advanced using a truck-mounted direct push drilling rig. The soil borings will be
advanced to a maximum depth of approximately 20 feet bgs, refusal or five feet below the initial
water table, whichever occurs first. Subsequent to completion, discrete depth groundwater
samples will be collected from each of the boring using a HydropunchTM sampling device. The
proposed total boring depths will not be exceeded without verbal approval from the client.
2
Reliable ■ Responsive ■ Convenient■ Innovative
