'?e ir,- Z ? <br />Stockton Surgery Center <br />Facilities & Environment Manual <br />Section: Hazardous Materials <br />Title: Eye Wash Station <br />Policy # <br />OBJECTIVE <br />To provide guidelines for emergency eyewash equipment <br />PROCEDURE <br />1. When an eye exposure to a hazardous substance occurs, the employee will do a continuous <br />irrigation at the eye wash station. Chemical exposures require a flush for 15 minutes. A blood or <br />body fluid exposure requires a flush for 10 minutes. Only cold water is connected to the eyewash <br />station. <br />2. In the event of a chemical eye exposure, the MSDS sheet will be consulted. <br />3. The eyewash stations are located at the OR and PACU sinks which are no more than a 10 -second <br />walk from the clinical areas. The units are identified by a clearly visible sign above the station. <br />4. Water flow is activated by turning on the faucet and pulling the eyewash button. The protective <br />caps should come off immediately with the water flow. <br />5. Eyelids are held open with the hands while the eyes are being flushed. <br />6. The units are inspected and documented weekly with a three minute flush of the eyewash system <br />7.
