T <br />11 <br />Document Number: 909 R 5003 <br />Rev: 12 Date: 1/22/13 <br />EMERGENCY RESPONSE PROCEDURES <br />• Identify where the puncture is and move the container so the puncture point <br />is such that the chemical will not spill out and/or secure container to <br />minimize impact if spill occurs. <br />• If a drum is on its side, roll the drum so the hole is pointing upward. <br />• If hole is towards top of container, tilt container at an angle <br />• Surround container with absorbent boom to contain material should a spill <br />occur <br />• with assistance, place container into a larger container <br />• with assistance, transfer contents of container to another container <br />If Container/Cylinder Has Bulge <br />Sometimes during hot weather, containers may expand causing a temporary bulge. <br />Whenever in doubt as to whether the bulge is the result of hot weather or another <br />cause, treat as a threatened release. USE CAUTION - depending upon type of <br />material do not attempt to release the pressure. <br />• if the cylinder contains welding gases, propane, or chlorine, call Security and <br />request assistance from the fire department. <br />• move container to a shaded, cool area and observe. See if the bulge goes <br />down as the container cools off. <br />Cylinders with -Broken Valves/Mechanical Problems That May Result in Release of <br />Contents <br />for chlorine and welding gases, call supplier, Air Gas, 800-949-7937 and <br />request assistance <br />for sulfur dioxide call supplier, Snowden, 209-552-5215 and request <br />assistance <br />Hoses and/or Pipes <br />Request assistance from maintenance. Hoses and pipes are often used to move <br />hazardous materials from point A to point B. USE CAUTION: System may need to be <br />purged before attempting to repair.
