Wear <br />PPE, including eye protection, gloves, and break line and replace damaged <br />pipe/hose with new material. <br />Actual Release Procedures <br />Examples of an actual release of a hazardous material include: <br />• a container falling over and spilling part or all of its content onto the floor or <br />adjacent area <br />• malfunction of valves or overfilling of bulk storage containers resulting in the <br />release of the chemical into the secondary containment area - a specific <br />example is diesel fuel. <br />• regulators not properly placed on cylinders of chlorine, sulfur dioxide, etc., <br />resulting in the release of part or all of their content <br />• equipment malfunction resulting in petroleum products being spilled onto <br />floor <br />• acid batteries in truck shop falling over, releasing acid on floor <br />Employees and/or Contractors Response <br />If an employee and/or Contractor comes across a hazardous release, he/she should <br />notify the closest supervisor or security. When making notification, the employee <br />and/or Contractor should give as much information about the incident as possible. <br />Examples of the type of information needed include: <br />• where has the released occurred <br />• type of release (drum vs. bulk storage) <br />• how many containers are involved <br />• name of hazardous material if known <br />• reason for thinking that there may be a release <br />• any other information that may help the supervisor (is there a fire, person <br />hurt, chemical cloud) <br />H:\profile\My Documents\500 E. louise ave (CIA LOF)\9-25-13\909R5003 Emergency Response Procedures.doc <br />Page 24 of 67 <br />Paper Copies are Not Controlled unless stamped in RED "Controlled Document".
