9
nes'+
Document Number: 909 R 5003
Rev: 12 Date: 1/22/13
Tornadoes are violent windstorms that may occur in connection with hurricanes or
thunderstorms. While conditions conducive to tornado formation are predictable, the
actual occurrence and path of a tornado is not. Warnings are therefore short and
employees must be trained and able to respond to a tornado warning quickly.
Pilkington provides training and drills to ensure all employees are able to respond to
a severe weather warning or tornado.
Pilkington maintains the specific emergency response equipment to ensure their
availability and suitability of use in the event of a tornado and severe weather event
that affects the facility. This includes equipment for internal and external
communications and general emergency response equipment.
Internal and external communications is provided by a scanner/weather radio,
audible alarms, a telephone system, cellular phones, two-way radios and pagers.
Pilkington maintains this equipment on a regular basis. Pilkington also has available
and maintained general emergency response equipment such as flashlights, backup
generators, bottled water supplies, and first aid equipment.
The nature of tornadoes is that very little advance warning is given. Shut down and
evacuation will most likely not occur in advance of a tornado. If shut down becomes
necessary, it will most likely occur as a result of tornado damage. Equipment should
be shut down as orderly as possible.
Security will monitor the scanner/weather radio for information relative to threatening
weather conditions. There are three types of tornado alerts which each employee
should know:
Level 1 Alert:
National Weather Service issues a TORNADO WATCH — Conditions
favorable.
SECURITY notifies Supervisors of TORNADO WATCH via all in -plant radio
bands.
Level 2 Alert:
National Weather Service issues a TORNADO WARNING for San Joaquin
County — Sighting. Security notifies Supervisors of TORNADO WARNING.
H:\profile\My Documents\500 E. louise ave (CIA LOF)\9-25-13\909R5003 Emergency Response Procedures.doc
Page 50 of 67
Paper Copies are Not Controlled unless stamped in RED "Controlled Document". Controlled Version appears in QS9000 database.
Copies without a RED "Controlled Document" stamp will be OBSOLETE 24 hours from 10/7/2013 8:47 AM
