Lodi City Landfill November 16,2011
• North of Awani Drive,Lodi,California Project No. 104690061
During 2000, another area-wide multi-depth drive-point soil gas survey was conducted by the
City of Lodi (Henshaw, 2001 in Muir, 2007). A total of 480 soil gas samples were collected, in-
cluding approximately 70 soil gas samples in the northern portion of the City of Lodi and 9 in the
vicinity of the LNC site. Soil gas samples were collected at depths of 10, 20, 30, and 40 feet bgs
at multi-sample locations, or at approximately 35 feet bgs at single sample locations. No samples
were collected on the LNC site during this investigation. It was stated that the results of the
multi-depth drive-point soil gas survey conducted in 2000 reported PCE was detected at a depth
of about 10 feet bgs in one isolated soil gas sample collected south of the LNC site.
6. HISTORICAL AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHS
Historical aerial photographs were reviewed for the years 1937 to 2011 (Appendix B).The following
general summary is provided and the reader is referred to the individual photographs for more de-
tailed information. The 1937 historical aerial photograph and two historical aerial photographs from
1940, indicate similarly appearing surface disturbances (generally lighter colored areas) both west
railroad tracks in areas north of the winery buildings and east of the tracks at the Lodi City Landfill.
• In the 1937 aerial photograph, the areas of surface disturbance/waste disposal east of the railroad
tracks appears to be primarily at the southern portion of the landfill site(Figures 4a and 4b).By 1940,
areas of surface disturbance/possible waste disposal are present west of the railroad tracks, generally
north of what appears to be a dry surface impoundment/industrial waste pond. The area north of the
impoundment/waste water pond appears similar in appearance to the landfill area east of the railroad
tracks. Both areas appear light in color and contain elliptically shaped dirt roads that likely were used
to transport wastes to and from the site. The area south of the landfill(City of Lodi property)is agri-
cultural site use,as well as the area west of the former winery buildings(Figures 5a and 5b).
By 1952, east of the railroad tracks, the approximate lateral extent of surface disturbancelwaste disposal
area appears to generally correspond to the current approximate lateral extent of the Lodi City Landfill
(City of Lodi property). West of the tracks, surface impoundments/industrial waste ponds are present
north of the winery buildings.West of the impoundments/ponds is surficially disturbed areas. In 1957,the
Lodi City Landfill appears similar in appearance to the 1952 aerial photograph with the exception that the
western boundary in the area of the railroad tracks appears to be graded. West of the railroad tracks, an
additional surface impoundment/industrial waste pond is present. In the 1963 and 1972 aerial photo-
graphs, it appears the Lodi City Landfill (east of the tracks) is partially vegetated and the area west and
1W90061 R filW.dm 12 IV/17 rr *oore
