V. Alternatives to the Project
The affected roadways would deteriorate at increased rates, requiring more frequent maintenance
and repairs. At the same time, waste related traffic on Austin Road would essentially cease when
the landfill closes.Traffic volumes to Foothill Landfill would increase.
Cultural Resources
Potential cultural resources on the CYA parcel could still be affected;however, any on the
Brocchini parcel would not be affected by the No-Project Alternative. Impacts to cultural
resources is unlikely.
Vegetation and Wildlife
Because the CYA parcel would be altered under this scenario, the biological resources on the
CYA parcel would be impacted. However, the Brocchini parcel would not be altered under the
No-Project Alternative and therefore this alternative would not impact the sensitive habitats on
the Brocchini parcel.
Air i
Air tvty
Associated air quality impacts related to the increased vehicular miles traveled also would be
expected. The generation of air pollutants would increase substantially because the transfer
trucks would have to travel an additional 64 miles round trip.
is
Related noise impacts related to the increased vehicular miles traveled would be expected.
Sensitive receptors along the haul routes would be affected.
Energy
Energy impacts associated with the increased vehicular miles traveled would be expected to be
greater than the energy consumed with the project.
Geology. Soils.and Seismicity
The No-Project Alternative would not involve any additional construction at the site other than
what is permitted. Without additional construction,no additional impacts to slope stability or
V.5
