V. Alternatives to the Project
Cultural Resources
No archeological survey was done for the alternative site;however, given the use of the site,it is
likely that any archeological significant deposits on or near the surface have been highly
disturbed.
Vegetation and Wildlife
Unlike the proposed project, the expansion of a landfill at the alternative site would most likely
not destroy any habitat of the Swainson Hawk.
Air QuaI4
Because vehicles would travel an additional 64 miles round trip, associated air quality related to
the increased vehicular miles traveled also would increase.
Like the proposed project,a landfill expansion at the alternative site would have local and
cumulative impacts on air quality. The amount of dust produced by a landfill expansion at the
alternative site would be the same or greater than that for the proposed project depending on
waste handling and cover practices.
Noise
Unlike the proposed project, additional truck volumes at the alternative site would have
significant noise impacts on residents living along the haul routes because of the new truck trips
bringing in the City of Stockton's garbage to the site. The residences would he exposed to truck
noise from additional waste-hauling trucks on Waverly Road,a potentially significant impact. A
landfill expansion at the alternative site could significantly impact more sensitive receptors than
the proposed project.
Energy
Associated energy consumption related to the increased vehicular miles traveled would also
increase substantially.
V.11
