II. Project Description
• tank cleaning sludges or sediments;or
• contaminated soil or sand.
White Goods
White goods are large appliances such as washers, dryers, and refrigerators, that have entered the
solid waste stream. White goods have special handling requirements because of their size and
weight and because they may contain polycholorinated biphenyls(PCBs)in electrical capacitors
and lubricating oils and chlorofluorocarbons(CFCs)in cooling and refrigeration units. White
goods are no longer accepted at the Austin Road Landfill.
Infectious Wastes
Infectious wastes are accepted at the Austin Road Landfill, subject to the special handling
P J P g
procedures described below.
The City of Stockton has developed procedures for the handling and disposal of sterilized
infectious wastes in accordance with California Code of Regulations,Title 22, and the Medical
Waste Management Act of 1990.
The site does not accept anti-neoplastics,recognizable anatomical remains, viable microbiology
cultures, nor fetal remains. Infectious waste in clearly marked red plastic bags are immediately
covered by the landfill operator with either refuse or dirt as soon as they are received at the
landfill.
Screening of Waste
Some of the prohibited wastes described above are readily observable and easily screened out.
Other prohibited waste are not as easy to screen because it includes a wide variety of products
that can be delivered in quantities too difficult to notice. To minimize the potential for
dangerous waste to enter the landfill, employee training and a load checking program would be
required.
II.21
