Page 2-13 SECTION 2-SITE OPERATIONS PLAN <br /> ■ Prohibit smoking within 50 feet of any trenching or piping. <br /> ■ Have a safety observer who is trained in he use of all safety equipment present during <br /> all construction of the landfill. <br /> v Conduct periodic reviews of the safety procedures to assess their effectiveness. Make <br /> appropriate amendments to remedy any unsafe practices. <br /> 2.2.1 Standard Safe Work Practices <br /> In addition to the above general safety procedures, the landfill operator and employees should <br /> adhere to the following safe work practices: <br /> 1. Do not eat,drink, chew gum or tobacco, or smoke in potentially contaminated areas where <br /> the possibility for the transfer of contamination exists. <br /> 2. Do not smoke in the vicinity of the land111;1 gas equipment complex, the gas monitoring <br /> wells or probes, fuel supplies and other potential fire sources, or in confined/enclosed <br /> spaces. <br /> 3. Avoid contact with potentially contaminated substances. Do not walk through puddles, <br /> pools, mud, etc. Do not place monitorng equipment on a potentially contaminated <br /> surface. <br /> 4. Operators should make use of all their senses to alert themselves to potentially dangerous <br /> situations in which they should not become involved (i.e. presence of strong, irritating or <br /> nauseating odors). <br /> 5. Prevent, to the extent possible, spills. In the event that a spill occurs, contain liquid if <br /> possible and follow the procedures outlined in the Contingency Plans, below. <br /> 6. Prevent splashing of the contaminated materials and chemicals. <br /> 7. Operators shall be familiar with: <br /> ■ Accessibility to other on- and off-site personnel, equipment and vehicles <br /> ■ Communications <br /> ■ Areas of known or suspected contamination <br /> ■ Site access <br /> ■ Nearest clean water sources <br /> R.W.Beck and Associates <br /> City of S.ac<:v 1811 002 <br />
