Carol Oz
May 31, 1995
Page 2
Response
Since approximately 90 percent of the waste will be coming from
the Lovelace Transfer Station and the Tracy Materials Recovery
Facility and Transfer Station, recyclables will have already been
pulled from the waste stream. Only the remaining 10 percent of
incoming waste will be sorted for recyclables. If the site
initially receives an average of 1,000 tons/day, approximately
100 tons/day will need to be sorted for recyclables. Assuming a
diversion rate of approximately 5 percent, it is estimated that
about 5 tons/day of recyclables will be separated. Therefore,
one 40 yard roll-off truck/day (2 trip ends/day) will be more
than sufficient, initially. However, the number of recycling
trucks is dependent upon population and waste quantity increases.,
so more than one truck/day may be necessary in the future.
Comment 3
Will the recycling area be open to the public?
Response
The recycling area will not be open to the public. If pre-sorted
loads of recyclables enter the site, the loads will be dumped on
a recycling pad and transported to the recycling area by landfill
personnel . Only landfill personnel will work in the recycling
area.
If you have any further questions regarding the subject project,
please call me at Extension 83066.
GK:WJ:Vi
R:IV1RG1N1AKEMOSJFH-QUANT.CO
LA 31104
