• Only qualified personnel operate the noted equipment. <br /> • All equipment operators are made aware that personnel are continually working on the <br /> tipping floor. <br /> • All personnel working on the tipping floor are made aware that the noted equipment is <br /> being used on the tipping floor and to maintain a minimum distance of 10 -15' away from <br /> the equipment, unless they are loading recyclable materials in the bucket of the equipment. <br /> • All personnel on the tipping floor are required to wear highly visible safety vests, safety <br /> glasses, and hard hats. <br /> • Equipment operators have been instructed to honk the horn when working near personnel <br /> on the tipping floor and to maintain a distance of 10'- 15' away from personnel. <br /> • Equipment operators have been instructed to be vigilante at all times for personnel <br /> working on the tipping floor and maintain a distance of 10' — 15' away. <br /> • Equipment operators have been instructed to look to the rear prior to backing equipment. <br /> • All equipment is equipped with audible back up alarms and rear view mirrors. <br /> • Radio communication is maintained as needed between the equipment operators and <br /> personnel working on the tipping floor. <br /> • Safety meetings are held regularly with all personnel and personnel are constantly <br /> reminded to be aware of working around mobile equipment on the tipping floor. <br /> • When multiple pieces of equipment are operated in the same area of the tipping floor, all <br /> the operators are required to communicate with one another via portable radios and to <br /> maintain a distance of 15' — 20' from one another. In addition, the operators will <br /> communicate via portable radios with personnel on the tipping floor where multiple pieces <br /> of equipment will be in operation in the same area and to maintain a distance of 75' to <br /> 100' from the equipment. <br /> • Operators make personnel working on the tipping floor aware of equipment being operated <br /> on the tipping floor by the use of portable radios. Individuals without portable radios who <br /> are working on the tipping floor will be informed verbally by the staff person supervising <br /> them (i.e. Sheriff Inmate Supervisor, County staff). Staff who supervise Sheriff Inmate <br /> crews and Alternate Work Program participants have portable radios. Operators have been <br /> instructed to make their presence known to tipping floor personnel prior to operating <br /> equipment on the tipping floor. <br /> • When two or more pieces of equipment will be working in a confined area for a period of <br /> 30 minutes or more, the area will be cordoned off and personnel working on the tipping <br /> floor will be instructed to maintain a distance of 75' to 100'. <br /> The compactor and the backhoe are operated an average of three (3) hours daily while the loaders <br /> are operated an average of seven (7) hours daily. Instances when the compactor, the backhoe, and <br /> the two loaders are operated simultaneously, all equipment operators are made aware that all four <br /> pieces of equipment are operating on the tipping floor and to maintain a distance of 15' —20' from <br /> each other. In addition, all personnel on the tipping floor are made aware that all four pieces of <br /> equipment are operating on the tipping floor and to maintain a distance of 10' — 15' from the <br /> equipment. Likewise, equipment operators have been instructed to maintain a distance of 10' — <br /> 15' from personnel.
