place to fully inform customers and general public and deter prohibited waste
from the site.
A. NOTIFICATION TO GENERAL PUBLIC
The County has developed an advertising and educational program
regarding household hazardous waste. The advertising program includes
distribution of brochures, billboard advertisements and other forms of
advertisements within San Joaquin County (Exhibit 1). .
B. SIGNS
Signs are posted at the entrance of the scale house to identify prohibited
waste (Exhibit 2). County's web site also has the information with visual
aids to inform the general public.
® C. NOTIFICATION TO COMMERCIAL HAULERS
Commercial haulers are provided with proper notification regarding the
prohibited waste at FSL when they establish an account with the County
(Exhibit 3). Approximately ninety percent of the refuse disposed at FSL is
hauled by licensed haulers from transfer stations within the County.
Wastes transferred from the transfer station are screened under transfer
station's own exclusion program; thus, minimizing the concern for
hazardous waste at FSL.
D. VERBAL NOTIFICATION
Each customer is asked by the scale house staff the type of waste being
brought in and the origin of the waste. The customer is then asked if they
have any prohibited waste in their load. All scale house business
activities with the customer are recorded with a camera system.
Foothill Sanitary landfill San Joaquin County
HWEP July 2010 3 Public Works Department
Solid Waste Division
