G. waste Diverted in San Joaquin County:
In addition to waste diversion programs operating at landfill
sites, numerous private entities, such as waste haulers and
recyclers, operate diversion programs as well. Quarterly and
annual diversion information is requested from these companies in
San Joaquin County. They are asked to report the type of material
diverted, tonnage and which jurisdiction the material came from.
Due to reporting limitations, these reports do not account for all
diversion activities taking place in San Joaquin County, but are a
measure of a large portion of existing diversion activity. Thus,
actual waste diversion tonnages may vary significantly from those
reported below. Diversion figures obtained from private entities'
reports, as well as figures from landfill diversion programs, are
represented in the following table:
Known waste Diversion in San Joaquin County
(In Tons - 1992)
County* Unincorp* County* Unincorp*
Material Private Private Public Public
RECYCLING:
Paper 27, 980 7,842 18 5
Plastic 954 300
Glass 3 ,898 785
Metal 50, 268 11, 852 2, 005 501
HHW 320 99 16 4
TRANSFORM. :
Wood 17, 903 5, 247 72 18
Tires 12 12 135 34
WTE 18 ,261 4 ,565
Subtotals: 101, 335 26, 137 20,507 5, 127
TOTAL: 121,842 TOTAL: 31,264
County* Tons Unincorp* Tons
* "County" figures represent materials generated in all incorporated and
unincorporated San Joaquin County.
"Unincorp" figures represent materials generated in the unincorporated
areas only. These figures were either reported directly by private
companies, or were extrapolated using population percentages for the
reporting area.
7
