WMU D-99 Construction September 1999
Forward Landfill Job No.986011.02
received has been included in Appendix K. The manufacturer's QC data has
also been included within Appendix K.
5.4.2 Geomembrane Conformance Testing
Select samples were cut from random rolls of the geomembrane for
conformance testing in accordance with the project specifications and CQA
manual. Conformance testing was performed by Precision. Conformance
testing included tests for thickness (ASTM D-5994), specific gravity (ASTM D-
792, Method A), carbon black content (ASTM D-1603), carbon black dispersion
(ASTM D-5596), and tensile properties (ASTM D-638, Type IV, NSF modified).
Detailed results of the conformance tests performed for the HDPE are provided
within Appendix K. The results of the conformance testing indicated that the
material met the project specifications.
5.4.3 Geomembrane Deployment
Panel deployment on WMU D-99 and the Eastern Ash Pit Closure began
on July 2, 1999 and was completed about July 2 , 1999. Panel deployment o
the Class II Leachate Impoundment began on August 16, 1999 with final
completion about August 28, 1999. During the installation, Vector's CQA Monitor
kept panel deployment logs. These panel deployment logs are presented within
Appendix K. These logs recorded the date, time, panel number, temperature,
roll number, wind, thickness of the sheet, location, and panel area.
5.4.4 Geomembrane Test Seams (Trial Start-up Welds)
Prior to any seaming activities, at the beginning of each day and once
during the middle of the shift, a test seam (start-up trial weld test) was prepared
for each of the wedge and extrusion welders used for that shift. The seaming
technicians prepared a test specimen and marked the sample with the machine
number, machine temperature, date, time and their name.
The shear and peel tests were performed by the installer in the field in
accordance with ASTM D-4437. If the start-up weld sample failed to meet the
Vector Engineering, Inc. - 12438 Loma Rica Dr.,#C - Grass Valley, CA- (530)272-2448
-13-
