WMU D-99 Construction September 1999
Forward Landfill Job No.986011.02
project specifications, the welding technician and the GSE supervisor were
notified and advised to take corrective action or put that machine out of service.
Documentation of the trial welds was prepared by Vector and included the date,
time, temperature, machine number, technician, and results of the shear and
peel testing. The geomembrane start-up trial weld logs are presented within
Appendix K.
5.4.5 Geomembrane Field Seaming
The HDPE geomembrane panels were seamed using dual hot wedge and
extrusion welding techniques by the GSE crews. The majority of seams were
joined using double wedge welders, with difficult geometries, repairs and tie-ins
made using extrusion welders.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the seaming activities and observed for
proper panel overlap, cleanness of the seams, grinding where required, and
observed the speed and weld temperatures of the equipment used.
Documentation of this activity was recorded on a geomembrane seaming log.
These field seaming logs recorded information on the seam number and length,
date, time, welding machine, technician, machine temperature, and wind
condition, and are presented within Appendix K.
5.4.6 Geomembrane Nondestructive Seam Testing
After seaming of the panels was completed, the GSE QC technician and
Vector's CQA Monitor inspected the seams and panels for defects. Any
defective seams or tears, holes, non-dispersed resin beads or other defects were
marked for repairs. Seam continuity was tested by GSE using the air pressure
method for double wedge welded seams and the vacuum box method for
extruded seams.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the seam continuity testing and repairs
performed by GSE. Vector observed the air pressure and vacuum box testing to
ensure that the seams were satisfactory. During the air pressure testing,
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the pressure and pressure drop after puncturing
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 12438 Loma Rica Dr.,#C • Grass Valley, CA• (530)272-2448
-14-
