To monitor the success of rodent control measures, site personnel frequently <br /> inspect the site for signs of rodent activity. If any rodent activity is observed, site <br /> personnel will contact pest control specialist for professional advice and any <br /> services needed to prevent a vector nuisance. <br /> 7.7.3 NOISE <br /> Noise at the landfill includes traffic noise generated by trucks and other vehicles <br /> traveling along Austin Road to the landfill and noise generated by the equipment <br /> used during landfill operations. Noise levels of on-site equipment are controlled by <br /> proper maintenance of mufflers to factory specifications. "N©ise levels have not <br /> been a problem at the site, based on the absence of formal complaints and the <br /> few noise receptors in the area. <br /> 7.7.4 FIRE <br /> To prevent fires in landfill equipment and vehicles, Forward on-site personnel <br /> frequently remove debris and dust from undercarriages and engine compartments, <br /> and check for and repair oil and fuel leaks. Portable,. e-eminguishers are-provided <br /> on all landfill equipment. The entrance facilities and maintenance buildings are <br /> also equipped with fire extinguishers for extinguishing any minor fires. Any fire in a <br /> waste fill area will be extinguished by landfill personnel using appropriate landfill <br /> equipment, stockpiled soil cover, and when necessary, a water truck. The fire <br /> department will be notified of any fire incident. <br /> The on-site water well and a water storage tank provide water for fire suppression. <br /> The well at the entrance facilities area has a 1,500-,gpm,pum,p that feeds four <br /> hydrants. The well at the transfer station/resource recovery facility has a 500-gpm <br /> pump that feeds a 20,000-gallon pressurized tank. Lines from the tank lead to <br /> various locations. <br /> 7.7.5 DUST CONTROL <br /> Dust is controlled at the landfill by (1) proper maintenance of haul roads (paving, <br /> grading, and watering); (2) frequent application of fine water spray (minimum of <br /> twice daily) on the active soil-covered work areas, soil excavation areas, and soil <br /> stockpile areas where conditions may result in fugitive dust; (3) application of <br /> organic dust suppressant, and (4) limiting the speed of all on-site vehicles to 10 <br /> Forward Landfill jTD 7-16 <br /> L:\Allied\2000.193\Reports\finaljtd:Sec-7.0:08/20/01 BRYAN A.STIRRAT 6 ASSOCIATES <br />
