Gravel was placed on the pipes in
the same ditch prior to GDM. Prior to placing the eight-ounce(8 oz) geotextile, the thickness of the
drainage rock was checked with the measuring rod and also placed using a GPS system attached to the
dozers. Operations layer was placed in the northeast quadrant of the cell floor, working west to east and up
the west slope working south to north. The operations layer material was taken from the on site stockpile.
The west"V"ditch geotextile was cut open, regraded and left until the surveyor of record checked the area.
Work continued in the leachate pond removing the gravel and pumping the water out and in the mid
afternoon, the sump pipe was removed. After reviewing the plans and looking at the leachate sump pipe,it
was discovered that there were two different sets of plans which showed different pipe locations. After site
discussions and phone calls, the pipe will be relocated to the south and the pipe trench widened.
The GSE foreman and a crew of three(3)arrived on site and began repairs on the cell floor and in the
west"V"ditch. When the repairs were completed, the crew began deploying geosynthetic clay liner(GCL)
in the cell sump. Fifteen(15)panels were deployed throughout the afternoon. Four panels of 60 mil HDPE
were also deployed along the sump southern edge at the toe of slope in the late afternoon.
The Vector project manager,Montie C.,was briefly on site to transport three(3)bucket samples to the
laboratory for constant head testing. At his request and prior to liner repairs,two(2)moisture samples were
taken from the northeast quadrant at the"V"ditch where, previously, water had been trapped under the liner
and was later allowed to drain. The samples were placed in the oven for overnight drying.
Quartaroli Surveying was on site to check the grade of the west"V"ditch from the sump approximately
twenty feet to the northwest. He stated that it contained both proper"fall"and clay liner thickness.
Prepared By: Reviewed By:
4/23/03,Rev. 0 1 of 1
r-,)
