WMU FU-03,WMU F-West Leachate Impoundment and Desilting Basin February 2004
Forward Landfill Job No.021605.03
5.3.2.2 Field Seaming
® Seam Layout
Vector's CQA Monitor documented that the seam numbering system is compatible with
the panel numbering system. A seam numbering system was assigned by using both
panel numbers separated with a dash (i.e.: as in 3/4 is the seam of panel 3 and panel
4)
• Seaming Equipment and Products
Vector's CQA Monitor observed that the seaming equipment used by the subcontractor
was in accordance with the project specifications. In addition, Vector verified that the
extrudate (welding rod) used was compatible with the geomembrane material and was
comprised of the same resin as the geomembrane.
The liner crews seamed the HDPE geomembrane panels using double wedge and
extrusion welding techniques. The majority of seams were joined using double wedge
welders, with difficult geometry and repairs made using extrusion welders.
Vector's CQA Monitor observed the seaming activities and observed for proper panel
overlap, cleanliness of the seams, grinding where required, and speed and
temperatures of the equipment used. Documentation of the activities was recorded on
the geomembrane seaming log, which include information on the seam number, date,
time, welding machine, technician, machine temperature, and wind condition. The
geomembrane seaming logs are included in Appendix I.
Seam Preparation
Vector's CQA Monitor observed that the preparation of the seams was in conformance
with the project specifications and the seam area was clean and free of moisture, debris
and foreign materials prior to seaming.
Vector Engineering, Inc. • 143E Spring Hill Drive •Grass Valley, CA 95945 •(530)272-2448
-26-
