WMU FU-03,WMU F-West Leachate Impoundment and Desilting Basin February 2004 <br /> Forward Landfill Job No.021605.03 <br /> ® Destructive Seam Testing <br /> General- In addition to non-destructive testing, destructive samples were obtained at <br /> random locations to evaluate seam strength and integrity. The samples were tested for <br /> shear strength and peel strength (ASTM D6392). <br /> Location and Frequency—Vector's CQA Monitor selected the locations of <br /> approximately one sample per 500 linear feet of seam. Within WMU FU-03 and the <br /> leachate impoundment a total of 61 destructive samples were collected and tested from <br /> approximately 30,500 linear feet of seam, resulting in a frequency of 1 test per 500 <br /> linear feet. Additional destructive samples were obtained if there were failures or if <br /> there was an indication of overheating, contamination, or other adverse conditions. <br /> Sampling Procedure - GSE cut the samples as directed by Vector's CQA Monitor. <br /> Vector's CQA Monitor observed the cutting and assigned sample numbers, and <br /> reviewed sample information (sample number, seam number, seaming apparatus, <br /> operator identification, location, date, and time welded). Vector's CQA Monitor recorded <br /> the samples collected and sample location on the panel layout drawing. <br /> The holes in the geomembrane resulting from destructive seam sampling were covered <br /> by GSE immediately after sampling. The repair was completed by placing an extrusion <br /> welded patch of the same material. The continuity of the new seams in the repaired <br /> area was tested with the same procedure as described in the vacuum box testing <br /> procedures discussed previously. <br /> Size of Samples - Prior to testing in the laboratory, two samples, one at each end of the <br /> actual sample location, were cut for field-testing. If both specimens passed the field <br /> test, the sample was taken to the laboratory for testing. The size of the destructive <br /> samples was approximately 12 inches wide by 42 inches long. <br /> Laboratory Testing - The samples were taken to Vector's on-site laboratory for <br /> destructive testing of the seam.
