SECTION 10 <br />(11/92) <br />SMOKING PRIVILEGES. --Smoking will be allowed only in Contractor's vehicles <br />when located in an area not subject to fire. Smoking materials will be contained within <br />the vehicles. Throwing burning materials, such as cigarettes, from the vehicles will <br />result in revoking smoking privileges. <br />WATER. --Water may be obtained from the water tank shown on the Plans. <br />LANDFILL LINERS. --Protecting the landfill liner is of the essence in this project. <br />BERM/DITCH LINER.—The berm/ditch installed on the sideslopes of the landfill <br />is provided with a synthetic liner. The Contractor shall protect this liner during work on <br />site, and shall repair any damage caused by Contractor's workers. Repair shall be to <br />the satisfaction of the Engineer. <br />CARE OF THE SITE. --Contractor shall collect meal trash and other litter <br />generated by the Contractor daily. <br />COORDINATION WITH LANDFILL OPERATION. --The landfill will be in full <br />operation when the work is in progress. The Contractor shall not inhibit or obstruct the <br />flow of traffic or landfill operations. <br />Contractor's foreman shall sign in at the gate and shall give a list of workers on <br />site that day. <br />Contractor's workers shall park as directed by the Engineer. <br />Contractor shall not use site telephones or other facilities. <br />10-1.01C SITE CONDITIONS. --The work of this contract includes <br />excavation of refuse or contact with refuse. Other work is in the vicinity of buried <br />garbage and other materials in the sanitary landfills. Potential hazards exist due to the <br />presence of these buried materials, including those associated with landfill gas (LFG) <br />and the refuse itself. <br />LANDFILL GAS. --When buried in a landfill, refuse and other organic material <br />produces LFG. LFG is approximately 50 percent methane by volume and may contain <br />other contaminants. Potential hazards associated with LFG are due to: <br />b. Oxygen deficiency <br />c.
