TABLE 21
ANTICIPATED CONSTRUCTABILITY OF ALTERNATIVES
CORRAL HOLLOW SANITARY LANDFILL ENGINEERING FEASIBILITY STUDY
Alternative Description Score Remarks
Construction of landfill final cover systems is common practice, and there
are numerous,highly-qualified contractors who can perform this work.
Due to somewhat restricted access and small working area, staging the
No.1 Final Cover Extension 7 construction work may be difficult. A high-pressure gas line crosses the
work zone, and may require specialized equipment to avoid damage to
the pipeline. Ultimately, this would be a very small construction project
that should present few difficulties to a reputable contractor.
Construction of additional landfill gas extraction wells and lateral
pipelines is common practice on landfills that should pose few problems
to a reputable contractor. Care must be exercised to maintain the
Enhanced Landfill Gas integrity of the geosynthetic final cover system for wells installed
N°'2 Extraction 8 through the new cover system. The existing landfill gas extraction
system and flare station are reported to have sufficient capacity to
accept gas from the six new extraction wells that are proposed.
Numerous sparging and vapor extraction wells are required to treat the
plume. Wells will be spaced at 50-foot centers. Drilling and construction
use standard methods. Blower and compressor equipment will need to
be installed at the treatment site, and ancillary piping will be needed to
No.3 IAS/VES 4 transmit extracted vapors to the perimeter landfill gas collection system.
In addition, recognizing the need for operations and maintenance
equipment to travel on the roadway and the potential for vandalism, IAS
/VES wells will need to be installed in protective vaults that can be
accessed to permit air-flow and vacuum adjustments.
Wells MW-9A, MW-10A,and MW-11A would service as Intrinsic
Remediation monitoring wells. Aside from installing bladder pumps in
No.4 Intrinsic Remediation 10 each of these three wells,no construction is required. From a
constructability standpoint, this is considered the simplest alternative.
The conceptual groundwater extraction system is located along the point
No.5 Groundwater Extraction of compliance, spanning the distance between wells MW-8 and SB-1. It
with Air Stripping 6 is estimated that nine extraction wells would be required to achieve
containment, but drilling and well construction are fairly routine. This
alternative also requires installation of pumps, construction of control
Groundwater Extraction boxes, wiring for a permanent power supply, construction of a liquid
No.6 with GAC Treatment 5 storage tank,a conveyance pipeline to the conceptual treatment system,
and an above ground conveyance pipeline to the stormwater retention
basin. The system should also include safeguards against vandalism or
incidental damage.
