These wells will be installed in general
compliance with Clayton SOP -5 Monitoring Well Installation and SOP -6 Groundwater Well
Development and Surveying (attached).
Similar to the initial groundwater investigation, to collect the data needed to evaluate the
groundwater quality at the site and to properly scope any further investigation activities, Cove
Contractors proposes the following activities:
® Install replacement groundwater monitoring wells_
• Purge and sample the groundwater monitoring wells
® Conduct further investigation
Further details regarding these activities are provided in the following paragraphs. All onsite
activities will be conducted under the site-specific Health and Safety Plan for the site.
Groundwater sampling will be conducted in accordance with Clayton SOP -7 Groundwater
Sampling and SOP -3 Decontamination of Field Equipment (attached). Other pertinent SOPS,
such as SOP -8 Acquisition and Interpretation of Water -Level Data and SOP -9 Field
Measurement of pH, Conductivity, and Temperature of Surface Water and Groundwater are also
attached. Two rounds of groundwater sampling are proposed to be conducted prior to scoping
additional investigation activities, which will include finalizing the locations for the MW -9 and
MW -10 replacement wells. Groundwater samples will be analyzed for:
• VOCs in accordance with USEPA Method 8260B, including Acrylonitrile, trans- l-4-
Dichloro-2-butene, and Iodomethane
® CAM 17 metals in accordance with USEPA Methods 6010B and 7471
• Sulfate, Nitrate and Chloride in accordance with USEPA Method 300.0
• Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, Iron, and Sodium in accordance with USEPA
Method 7470A
• pH in accordance with USEPA Method 150.1
• Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) in accordance with USEPA Method 160.1
• Alkalinity (as CaCO3) and carbonate in accordance with SM Method 2320B
The purge water will be characterized based on the analytical results and it will be profiled and
disposed.
Based on the results of the groundwater sampling, additional groundwater monitoring wells may
be proposed. If additional wells are required, they will be installed in general compliance with
S:\ES\Proj\P03242\Groundwater\Workplan 2006\GW_installation and abandonment_WPL_FINAL.doc
