• All equipment operators have been trained to be vigilante for cylinders, propane tanks, televisions, computer monitors and these items will be pulled out and not pushed with the refuse being "fed" to the compactor. • The compactor is equipped with an audible back up alarm and working lights. • The compactor operator also informs personnel working on the tipping floor when the compactor needs to be driven off the compaction pad, so that personnel may maintain the required safety distance from the compactor. • The compactor is fueled and serviced south of the compaction area near the z -wall (Figure 5) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. • In the event of an explosion as a result of the compactor running over refuse, on-site staff will take appropriate action by isolating the area and contactingthe he appropriate emergency agencies (i.e. County Office of Emergency Services, County Environmental Health Department, and the local Fire Department).
