• All equipment operators have been trained to be vigilante for cylinders, propane tanks, <br />televisions, computer monitors and these items will be pulled out and not pushed with the <br />refuse being "fed" to the compactor. <br />• The compactor is equipped with an audible back up alarm and working lights. <br />• The compactor operator also informs personnel working on the tipping floor when the <br />compactor needs to be driven off the compaction pad, so that personnel may maintain the <br />required safety distance from the compactor. <br />• The compactor is fueled and serviced south of the compaction area near the z -wall (Figure <br />5) between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. <br />• In the event of an explosion as a result of the compactor running over refuse, on-site staff <br />will take appropriate action by isolating the area and contactingthe he appropriate emergency <br />agencies (i.e. County Office of Emergency Services, County Environmental Health <br />Department, and the local Fire Department). <br />The following safety measures are taken when other mechanical equipment (front-end loaders, <br />etc) are used on the tipping floor: <br />• Only qualified personnel operate equipment. <br />• Equipment operators are made aware that personnel are continually working on the tipping <br />floor. <br />• Personnel working on the tipping floor are made aware that the noted equipment is being <br />used on the tipping floor and to maintain a minimum distance of 10 -15 ft away from the <br />equipment, unless they are loading recyclable materials in the bucket of the equipment. <br />• Equipment operators to honk the horn when workingpersonnel on the tipping floor <br />and to maintain a distance of 10 to 15 ft away from personnel. <br />• Equipment operators have been instructed to be watchful for personnel workingon n the <br />tamping floor and maintain a distance of 10 to 15 ft away. <br />0 <br />Lovelace MRF and Transfer Station Department of Public Works/Solid Waste Division <br />Transfer Processing Report 22 County of San Joaquin -Revised 8/23/07 <br />
