Blass Environmental Management Inc U-Haul#709-50
002-70950-03 Groundwater Monitoring Report
10!22/01
• 3 0 GROUNDWATER MONITORING PROGRAM
The groundwater monitoring program discussed below included one monitoring event conducted in
September 2001 The measurement and sampling methods employed during the groundwater monitoring
event are discussed in the following sections
3 1 GROUNDWATER MEASUREMEN I'S —SEPTEMBER 2001
On September 24, 2001, Blaes Environmental measured the depth to groundwater in 16 of the 23
groundwater monitor well casings associated with the site The upper "A" casings did not contain water
and thus were not measured Groundwater levels were measured from a surveyed point on the top of the
monitoring well casing to the groundwater surface All water levels were measured to the nearest 0 01-
foot using a Heron TM electric water level sounder The water level depth and time of measurement were
recorded on a standard field data sheet The field data sheet is included in Appendix A and the data is
presented in Table 3 Groundwater depth measurements were performed in accordance with Blaes
Environmental groundwater monitoring procedures presented in Appendix B
•
Groundwater depths recorded in September 2001 ranged from 55 88 feet BTOC in MW-7 to 59 04 feet
BTOC in MW-6 These measurements corresponded to groundwater elevations ranging from 38 20 to
38 37 feet below mean sea level No free-phase hydrocarbons were observed during collection of
groundwater level measurements
The data from the middle "B" and lower "C" well casings were used to create groundwater condition
maps showing the groundwater flow direction across the site On September 12, 2001, the average
groundwater flow direction using data from the middle `B"well casings was toward southwest (Figure 3)
The groundwater flow direction of water in the lower "C" well casings was toward the north from
monitor well MW-7 and toward the west and southwest from the central portion of the site (Figure 4)
In addition to depth to water measurements, Blaes Environmental collected dissolved oxygen level
measurements from selected well casings using a YSI-85 dissolved oxygen meter The method of
dissolved oxygen measurement collection is described in Appendix B Measurements indicated that
6
