8111eS Environmental Management Inc U-Haul#709-50
002-70950-03 Groundwater Monitoring Report
10/22/01
dissolved oxygen levels in groundwater ranged from 1 0% in monitor well MW-6B to 2 7% in monitor
well MW-8A (Table 3)
3 2 GROUNDWATER SAMPLING— SEPTEMBER 2001
On September 25 and 26, 2001, Blaes Environmental collected 16 groundwater samples from the on-site
monitoring wells that contained water This included samples from the middle"B"casings and lower"C"
i
casings only The drop in groundwater levels did not allow sample collection from any of the upper"A"
casing wells
i
Groundwater sample collection involved purging approximately three well volumes of groundwater from
the wells and allowing the wells to equilibrate before sample collection Bailing was used to purge water
from the middle "B" casings Pumping was used to purge water from the lower "C" casings Purging
wells by bailing involved using a 1 5-inch by 6 5-foot PVC bailer The bailer was decontaminated
between use at each middle "B" well casing The purged water was transferred to an on-site 1,000-gallon
polyethylene storage tank
• Purging by pumping involved the use of a 1 5-mch diameter Grunfos® submersible pump, new hose,
control box, and generator Typically the pump was set near the middle of the screened interval of the
well to minimize the influx of sediment from the bottom of the well The pump was decontaminated
before and after use using a liquid Alconox® detergent wash, a tap water rinse, and a final rinse with
detonized water The average purge rate during purging was approximately three gallons per minute (the
maximum flow rate for the pump) Purge water was temporarily stored in 55-gallon steel drums and Iater
transferred into the on-site polyethylene tank Periodic parameter readings were recorded on the field
data sheets included in Appendix A More details of groundwater purging procedures are presented in
Appendix B
The purged groundwater contained in the on-site 1,000-gallon polyethylene tank is pending waste
profiling and disposal/treatment Disposal/treatment of the contained water will be discussed to a
separate report
7
