U <br /> 13 December 2002 <br /> AGE-NC Project No. 02-0926 <br /> Page 2 of 4 <br /> DRILLING AND SAMPLE COLLECTION <br /> On 17 October 2002, three soil probe borings (B-1 through B-3) were advanced at the site as part <br /> of the assessment activities.The field work was conducted as outlined in the AGE-prepared Revised <br /> Work Plan Addendum -July 2002, dated 18 July 2002. <br /> The soil probe borings were advanced utilizing a van-mounted Geoprobe 5400, equipped with <br /> 1.25-inch diameter probe rods with an attached 1.50-inch diameter soil sampler, using a hydraulic <br /> hammer to drive the soil sampler to the specified depths.The three borings were advanced vertically <br /> to depths of 15 feet below surface grade(bsg). <br /> During the boring operation,soil samples were collected at 5-foot intervals,beginning at 5 feet bsg, <br /> to the total depth of each boring. Each sample was collected utilizing a 1.50-inch Geoprobe soil <br /> sampling assembly loaded with four six-inch brass sleeves.After collection,the ends of the second <br /> brass sleeve were covered with Teflon sheets,capped and sealed with tape. The sleeve was labeled <br /> with soil probe boring location,depth,time,date and sampler's initials and then placed in a chilled <br /> container.Then the soil from one of the three remaining sleeves was field-screened for the presence <br /> ofvolatile organic compounds,using an organic vapor meter(OVM)equipped with photo-ionization <br /> detector(PID). Soils encountered in the borings were also visually classified by an AGE geologist <br /> in accordance with the Unified Soil Classification System(USCS).Following soil sample collection, <br /> all probe-boring locations were abandoned by backfilling with portland cement from the total depth <br /> to surface grade. <br /> EQUIPMENT DECONTAMINATION <br /> Prior to sample collection,the Geoprobe soil sampling equipment was thoroughly rinsed twice with <br /> clean water after being washed with a solution of Alconox. In addition, the Geoprobe rods were <br /> thoroughly cleaned prior to soil probe boring advancement. <br /> ANALYTICAL METHODS <br /> Three selected soil samples were transported under chain-of-custody to McCampbell Analytical,Inc. <br /> (MAI), a California Department of Health Services-certified laboratory, for analysis for: <br /> • Total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline(TPH-g)as diesel (TPH-d) and motor oil(TPH- <br /> mo)in accordance with EPA Method 8015M; <br /> • Volatile organic compounds by EPA Method 8260; and <br /> Advanced GwEnvironmental.Inc. <br />
