511 L
H. KLEINFELDER & ASSOCIATES
2 BACKGROUND
I
The Guild winery facility is located at One Winemasters, Flay in the City
of Lodi. An on-site 500-gallon underground fuel storage tank was use to
fuel trucks and other vehicles during business operations. Use of the
 # tank was discontinued and the tank excavated in 1985. J.H. Kleinfelder
t leries
and Associates (JHKL .) was contracted by Guild Wineries and Distil
t' to conduct investigations to assess the presence of petroleum hydrocarbons
in the soil and ground water beneath the tank excavation area adjacent to
the maintenance shop. The findings of the previous investigations are
presented in three JHK&A reports: "Sail and Ground Water Assessment
Report' dated December 16, 1985; ,Soil Assessment Report" dated March 18,
1986; and ,Soil and Ground Water Assessment Report,
Second Phase" dated
f_x,
January 14, 1987.
Results of the initial investigation indicated that petroleum hydrocarbons
were present in the soil and ground water beneath the tank excavation
feet and a depth o£
area. To date, an area of an approximate radius of 40
10 to 25 feet has been defined as the limits of detectable concentrations
of petroleum hydrocarbons in the unsaturated soil. The hydrocarbon plume
t'te ground water have been
boundaries and direction of migration in
estimated in the area of the tank excavation, north of the main building.
The extent that hydrocarbon plume has mi=,rated in the ground water
t east ha: not been ascertained at
beneath the main building and to the south
this time.
The objective of this work dlan and the eventual ground water remediation
t program is to recover the central portion of the hydrocarbon plume and
effectively remove the majority of hydrocarbon_ constituents from the
.
underlying ground water. The removal of petroleum hydrocarbons from the
-- ---- - -- -- - ---------- plan,--and-is-addressed. .... -- - — — -
e,,, unsaturated soil will not be xnclued in
this-work-
in a separate JHK&A report titled "vapor Extraction System Report" dated
February 2, 1987.
4 3
33--87-887
