29 September 1998.
AGE-NC Project No. 98=0492
Page 2.of 6
2.2. PREVIOUS.INVESTIGATIONS
It is our understanding that a previous subsurface investigation was'performed in 1993. Two soil
borings and-three ground water monitoring wells were'drilled and sampled at the site. According to
Ms. Pontes,,.no hydrocarbon-impacted -soil. or.,groiind water were.encountered during the
investigation. However, AGE was not provided withh-c pies'of the report of previous.investigation
for review.
2.3. REGIONAL GROUND WATER DEPTH AN FLOW DIRECTION
According the.information obtained from the .initial site assessment, ground-water depth in the
vicinity of the site,is approximately 15 to 20 feet bs . Regional ground water flow direction is
generally northwest to north-northeast. However,both gfound water depth and flow direction-at the.
site can vary seasonally.
3.0. SCOPE OF WORK
The existing USTs at the site were lined in 1993.New piping "andcathodicprotection is scheduled -
to be installed at the site..However,..in'accordance With PHS=EHD requirements; prior to.upgrade,.
soil and/or.ground.water samples must becollected be eath.the USTs to determine,if a release.has
occurred since lining of the. USTs. The proposed investigation at .the site will consist of the ..
following tasks:,
• Permitting and pre-field work activities;
• -.Soil sample collection and analysis;
.Ground water sample collection and.analysis-(if required);
• Report preparation.
Each of these tasks is described in more detail below.
3.1. PERMITTING AND PRE-FIELD WORK:AC IVITIES"- f
Applicable site assessment permits will be obtained fro the PHS-EHD.As required'by PHS-EHD
permitting, a health and safety plan will be.prepare'd in accordance with Occupational-Safety and .
Health Guidance Manual for Hazardous Wasle,Site Ac ivities (National lnstitute for Occupational
Advanced GeoEnvirnnmcntel,Inc.
