2,16 June 14, 2001 Discovery of Free-Floating Hydrocarbons
During routine quarterly groundwater monitoring activities in June 2001 ,
ASE personnel discovered free-floating hydrocarbons on the groundwater
in monitoring wells MW-5, MW-6 and piezometer P-4 Historically, only
' monitoring well MW-5 contained a measurable thickness of free-floating
hydrocarbons and MW-6 had previously contain a sheen However, since
the installation of the groundwater remediation system, the product in
' MW-5 had reduced to an unmeasureable thickness
2.27 December 2001 Installation of ASIVE. Rernediation System
In late November 2001, ASE installed seven air-sparging (AS) wells a n d
' seven vapor-extraction (VE) wells at the site The AS wells were then
manifolded together, the VE wells were then manifolded together ASE
then installed an internal combustion (IC) engine remediation system at
the site within a fenced-enclosure The AS manifold was piped to an air-
sparging blower on the IC engine The VE manifold was piped to a vacuum
blower on the IC engine On December 21, 2001, the remediation system
was started By the end of December 2002, the AS/VE system h a d
recovered approximately 524 gallons of gasoline from the subsurface
The system was turned off on January 1, 2003 for a period of site
monitoring during non-remedial activities
28 May 20Q3 AS/VF Re-Start
After a brief period on non-remediation activities at the site, ASE re-
installed a new IC engine to the existing manifolds and turned the AS/VE
remediation system back on Since the re-start in May 2003, the system
has only recovered approximately 3-gallons of gasoline from the
subsurface Monthly influent air samples have contained no greater than
trace concentrations of the analytes tested
3 . 0 SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work for this assessment is to install groundwater
monitoring wells downgradient of the site to monitor groundwater in
several groundwater-bearing zones Since ASE has previously drilled CPT
borings in these locations, the well construction of the wells will be preset
and no subsurface soil sampling will take place This will allow for the
Frank's One Stop Workplan — September 2003
' -12-
