f
J
both depths were not detected at a detection limit 0 . 05
ppm.
one sample was collected a a depth of 21 ' BGS from both
other wells and was non detect for TPH as gasoline and
BTEX at dL' s of 2 . 0 ppm and 0. 05 ppm, respectively.
03-17-89 PHS/EHD receives a copy of a letter from the RB to RP
requesting the initiation of quarterly monitoring.
06-05--89 PHS/EHD receives a copy of a letter from the RB to RP
asking for soil borings to define the extent of the soil
contamination and a MW within 10 ' of the former tank pit
area in the downgradient direction.
08-23-89 Two soil samples collected from the 41' of piping trench
this date. Soil is listed as sandy and a slight odor is
noted in the sample collected from the area of the former
dispensers. Piping condition is poor. The piping sample
obtained from adjacent to the former dispenser area
showed TPH as gasoline at 10 ppm, TPH as diesel at 6 , 900
ppm. BTEX was not detected at a DL of 0. 1 ppm.
10-12-89 The former tank pit area, piping trench area and
dispenser area was overex avated this date. Excavation
dimensions were approximately 50 'x40 'x231 , excluding the
dispenser portion, which was excavated to a total depth
of 8 ' BGS. One sample was taken from the bottom of the
former dispenser area and five soil samples were
collected from the former tank area, four sidewall and
one bottom sample.
The samples were analyzed using a mobile lab with only
the bottom sample from the former tank pit area detecting
hydrocarbons above the L' s of 1. 0 ppm for TPH as
gasoline and 0. 1 ppm for TEX. ' The bottom sample showed
TPH as mineral spirits at 5 . o ppm, TPH as gasoline at 16
ppm, toluene at 0.2 ppm, EB at 2 . 7 ppm and total xylenes
at 13 ppm. Benzene was n t detected at a DL of 0 . 1 ppm.
11-13-89 PHS/EHD receives a letter from RP ' s consultant asking for
permission to backfill the excavation with the previously
excavated soil. Also recommends monitoring for one year
and if levels decrease they may ask for closure. If
levels remain the same or rise, active remediation may be
warranted.
11-20-89 PHS/EHD receives comments from the RB. They concur with
the consultants request to backfill the excavation with
the previously excavated and aerated soil. Thirty soil
samples were obtained from the stockpiled soil and six of
those showed levels of TPB as mineral spirits from 5 . 4 to
14 ppm. Three of the six also showed TPH as gasoline up
to 12 ppm and one of the six detected EB and total
