Work Plan for Re-excavation May 3 , 1989
Former Texaco Service Station, Manteca, California AGS 38053-1
sample locations are shown on Plate --2 . Hydrocarbon-vapor
levels in the soil samples will be characterized using an organic
vapor monitor (OVM) . The OVM measures hydrocarbon levels in the
ambient air or headspace above the brass sample sleeve. As such,
OVM-measured hydrocarbon levels are semiquantitative and may not
correlate directly with levels measured by laboratory analysis.
If hydrocarbon contamination -is detected in the soil samples
collected beneath the former location of the underground product-
delivery lines, soil with positive OVA readings will beexcavated
i
and stockpiled onsiteland remain the responsibility of the
property owner. Soil samples will be collected at the limits of
the excavation to analyze for contaminants in the base and
sidewalls. It is not currently anticipated that further
excavation will be necessary after removal of the underground
product-delivery lines.
The samples ,,ill be ollected by driving a .hand-operated
percussion sampler fitted with a clean brass sleeve into the soil
immediately after it is brought to the surface in the excavator
bucket. The sleeve will be removed from the sampler, analyzed
with an organic vapor meter, and sealed with aluminum foil,
plastic caps, and tape. The sample will then labeled and -quickly I
placed in iced storage. A Chain •of Custody Record will be
10
1
