The
Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) Schools Unit provided review comments for a
portion of Neighborhood D that consisted of the high school parcel. Groundwater sampling was
conducted in September 2009. No total petroleum hydrocarbons as crude oil (TPHc), TPH-diesel
(TPHd), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene(s) (BTEX), or naphthalene was detected in any
of the groundwater samples. Maximum sulfur and sulfate concentrations included 78.8 milligrams
per liter (mg/L) and 220 mg/L, respectively. The associated regulatory case has been closed.
The Proposed Mountain House High School: This site was classified as No Further Action in
2009.
The Proposed Julius Cordes Elementary School: This site, located at 397 East Ramsey Drive,
was classified as No Further Action in 2018.
The proposed Hansen Elementary School (Neighborhood C): This site, located at 1185 Vecindad
Street, was classified as No Further action in 2016.
Shell Central Valley Crude Oil Pipelines: In 2006 and 2007, about 165,000 cubic yards of soil
contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons from two former pipelines, which were removed from
operation in the 1960s, were excavated from 25 areas of concern in Neighborhoods B, C, and D.
Residual hydrocarbons remained in soil after the remediation; however, the RWQCB concluded
the remaining petroleum impact does not pose a threat to human health, the environment, or the
waters of the State. No Further Action status was granted in November 2011.
Shea Homes — Neighborhood C: This site, located in the southwestern portion of Neighborhood
C, is listed as certified. It has undergone cleanup activities in accordance with the Removal Action
Work Plan (RAW). Our review of available documents found that the soil was impacted with
dieldrin, a persistent organochlorine pesticide. The horizontal and vertical extent of impacted soil
was determined through confirmation sampling and laboratory testing. In accordance with the
RAW, impacted soil was excavated and encapsulated within Great Valley Parkway. The
Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) issued a letter on September 13, 2017,
certifying the remedial action was completed at the site.
ENGEOJuly 2, 2020
Expect Excellence-
