Storage of Sharps <br />As soon as sharps containers are full (as indicated by container fill line/status), they are <br />removed, replaced, and either packaged for shipping or placed in storage. Once filled and <br />closed it shall be shipped as soon as possible per instructions, but no later than 90 days <br />from time taken out of service. <br />Storage of Medical waste <br />If other medical waste is generated, the waste will be placed into a red bags and sharps <br />containers as appropriate. Spill cleanup materials may be placed directly into the <br />biohazard spill cleanup container or into a red bag. <br />As soon as medical waste red bag/containers are full or ready for removal from area of use, <br />they are placed into secondary transport containers for storage. <br />Containers holding medical waste will be shipped within 90 days of the time they are taken <br />out of service. If the waste is determined to be putrescible2, it shall be shipped within 30 <br />days of being taken out of service. <br />Storage of Waste Pharmaceuticals <br />Pharmaceutical waste (expired pharmaceuticals that cannot be sent to a reverse <br />distributor) is stored in a sealed container with a label designating the contents for high - <br />heat incineration. Liquid pharmaceutical waste is neutralized in cat litter in a plastic bag <br />before placement in the container. <br />As soon as pharmaceutical waste containers are full, they are removed, replaced, and <br />packaged for shipping. Once filled, closed, and taken out of service, waste pharmaceutical <br />containers shall be mailed or picked up by transporter per instructions within 180 days. <br />2Putrescible medical waste includes blood and body fluids, pathological waste, and any medical waste that <br />contains organic matter capable of decomposing and attracting insects or rodents or causing nuisance <br />conditions like odors. <br />VII.
