<br />Cleanup Procedures for medical waste
<br />Spill cleanup kit consists of absorbent (cat litter), scraper and scoop, personal protective
<br />equipment (PPE --water-resistant gown, eye protection, chemical -resistant gloves), surface
<br />disinfectant, surface wipes, hand wipes, instructions, biohazard bag or container. Blood or
<br />OPIM spills are to be cleaned up immediately or as soon as feasible using the following
<br />method:
<br />• Follow instructions included with cleanup kit
<br />® Determine what PPE is to be used, depending on size and location of spill (gloves,
<br />gown, mask and eyewear are recommended, but booties may be necessary if spill on
<br />floor is large.)
<br />® For fluid spill on hard surface, place absorbent over the spill to absorb fluid. If a
<br />large spill, or if spill contains broken glass, never pick up glass with your hands. If
<br />dried spill, soak with disinfectant first.
