IX. TRAINING FOR PERSONNEL <br />Upon initial orientation, all Associates are required to read the Medical Waste Management Plan. <br />In addition, Banfield Pet Hospital uses an online training program called MyLearning. Training <br />includes a detailed review of the information in this operating plan. <br />Training is required upon hire and will be updated for the entire staff each year, at a time to be <br />determined by the hospital leadership. Training records of those attending will be maintained <br />and kept in the Safety Binder with the waste manifests. Records will be available at all times for <br />inspector review. <br />Medical waste management training will be conducted for personnel who generate medical <br />waste, place medical waste in containers or bags, works in an area where medical waste is <br />generated or stored, prepare medical waste for off-site transport, and/or are involved with <br />medical waste recordkeeping. Training will be provided upon hire and additionally at a <br />frequency as is determined necessary to ensure staff is consistently demonstrating proper <br />management and handling of medical waste; and if new or altered procedures are implemented. <br />Training sessions will include all the following activities that are carried out in this hospital: <br />m Definition and Identification of medical waste <br />® Medical waste segregation, containment, and labeling <br />® Proper storage of medical waste <br />® Preparation and packaging of medical waste for off-site transport <br />® Medical waste spill or release containment and cleanup procedures <br />® Other federal medical waste requirements including as applicable: <br />a. OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens Standard <br />b. OSHA's Hazard Communication Standard <br />c. OSHA's Person Protective Equipment Standard <br />Training will include the above topics in addition to OSHA -required bloodborne pathogen <br />training. In addition to training specific to this Medical Waste Management Plan, training <br />specific to the Sharps Compliance for medical waste; Reliable Pharmaceutical returns, Inc. for <br />non -hazardous pharmaceuticals; and Stericycle, Inc., for hazardous pharmaceuticals and <br />laboratory waste will be provided in this hospital.
