t
a
Wilfie Farms, Inc. page 2
10 September, 2002 Inspection Report Cont.
houses are empty. Currently the facility maintains approximately 170,000 chicken layers. The ducks are
for meat production. The manure is under roof in the elevated houses until it is cleaned out and applied to
the cropland. There were no piles of manure solids observed at the time of the inspection. Mr. Huang
said that the manure is kept inside the roofed structure until it is cleaned out. When the manure is
removed from the elevated poultry house it is applied to the cropland and incorporated into the soil. There
are 4 ponds that collect storm water from around the poultry houses. The ponds are currently near empty.
Mr. Huang said that the facility has a written manure management plan with a copy on file at the San
Joaquin County Environmental Health Department. A review of files note that a copy the manure
management plan is on file at the Regional Board office. The walnuts are micro sprinkler irrigated 1-2
times a week with clean irrigation water. Mr. Huang said that they do not apply wastewater to the
cropland.
At the time of the inspection it appeared that some of the clean irrigation water came off the south end of
the cropland. There was no irrigation water leaving the property at the time of the inspection. The water
going to and crossing Henry Road appeared to be coming from the stream south of the poultry facility.
Some of the land up-gradient maintains pastured livestock.
Alan Biedermann, San Joaquin County Lead Senior Environmental Health Specialist also inspected the
facility in follow-up to the complaint call. After the inspection, Mr. Huang, Mr. Biedermann, and myself
met to discuss the findings of the inspection.
SUMMARY:
The facility was inspected and no wastewater, or signs of previously discharged wastewater were observed
at the time of the inspection. A manure management plan and practices are in place.
Approved-7 I 7
