ARCADIS
3.8 Decontamination Procedures
Equipment that comes into contact with potentially contaminated soil will be
decontaminated consistently to assure the quality of samples collected. Disposable
equipment intended for one-time use will not be decontaminated, but will be packaged
for appropriate disposal. Before and after each use, reusable sampling equipment or
containers will be properly decontaminated. All hand-augering and sampling devices
used will be decontaminated using the following procedures:
• Alconox or Liquinox and tap water wash, using a brush if necessary
• Tap water rinse
• Initial deionized/distilled water rinse
• Final deionized/distilled water rinse
• Set on clean plastic sheeting to air dry
3.9 Investigation-Derived Waste Management
In the process of collecting environmental samples during on-site soil and groundwater
sampling, different types of potentially contaminated investigation-derived wastes may
be generated that include the following:
• Used personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Disposable sampling equipment
• Decontamination fluids
• Soil cuttings
Used PPE will be disposed of in a plastic garbage bag and then into a sanitary waste
disposal receptacle. Other waste such as disposable sampling equipment will also be
disposed of in garbage bags and then into a sanitary waste disposal receptacle. Field
sampling equipment will be decontaminated on-site over the native soil based on
historical analytical data and low concentrations of COPCs. Soil cuttings generated
from soil sampling activities will be placed back in the borehole.
4.0 FIELD VARIANCES
Because field conditions may not be as anticipated, it may become necessary to
implement modifications to the SAP that is presented in Section 3.0 of this PEA Work
Plan. Field personnel will notify the ARCADIS project manager when deviations from
this Work Plan appear necessary. The DTSC project manager will be notified of the
proposed modifications, and a verbal (for minor modifications) or written (for major
modifications) approval will be obtained from the DTSC before implementing the
Page 26 wp-PEA-Gordon-Jul10-RV009808.doc:
