Considering your fire loss potential, buildings, vehicles, processing equipment,
processed product, raw product, and stored packaging supplies, we have developed
some recommendations to improve you facilities readiness for a fire emergency: These
recommendations were made using the Uniform Fire Code (UFC) 1994 Edition, the
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Codes and Standards and NFPA
Recommended Practices and Guides. Specifically: UFC-APPENDIX IIIA & B, NFPA
1231 (water supply for suburban and rural fire fighting), NFPA 46 (recommended safe
practice for storage of forest products).
Our recommendations are as follows:
1. Provide a deep water well capable of supplying a minimum of 750- 1000
gpm•
2. Provide a fire hydrant system throughout the facility. The system should be
designed and engineered to provide a minimum of 500 gpm at any hydrant located in
the outside storage area and 750- 1000 gpm near the buildings. We can meet with
you regarding the hydrant type, spacing and locations.
3. Provide a static water source (above ground tank) able to store a minimum of
30,000 gallons of water. This supply would allow the fire dept. to augment the hydrant
system (i.e. - pump water into the water mains) and be available in the event of a loss
of electricity. The loss of electricity during a fire is a common occurrence.
4. All planned improvements should be reviewed by this fire district to assure
the plan meets current laws and standards.
We are looking forward to your response. Please feel free to contact us at any
time to arrange an appointment to discuss our recommendations.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Vic S
Fire hal
VeMoore
`
Fire Chief
