Since there is virtually no upgradient cropland, nitrogen fertilization is extremely unlikely
to have contributed nitrogen to the underlying aquifer(s). However, it is well documented
that there has been nitrate impact to aquifers serving adjacent communities on Von Sosten
Road. An indeterminable percentage of this nitrate contamination probably came from
septic system density in this locale, in addition to geological formations occurring in the
Coastal Range Mountains, upgradient to the property.
No future agricultural activities will occur on the property, or on nearby properties, that
may contribute to potential environmental concerns. The property has not been under
recent conventional cultivation; therefore, no pesticides, herbicides, and/or fertilizers have
been recently applied.
The second source of environmental information was the referenced documents from
Environmental Records Search(ERS). These documents reveal environmental
information obtained directly from listed public sources. The data indicates no
environmental threat to the subject property within a one mile radius.
The third informational source is the Geotracker Site List from the State Water Resources
Control Board for underground storage tanks (USTs), leaking underground fuel tanks
(LUFTs), pipeline spills, and other contaminated sites. In 2003, a Chevron Pipeline
(T10000007769)had a breach in which there was petroleum spillage. It became a Cleanup
Program Site with the Regional Water Board. The cleanup status is completed, and the
case has been closed (RB Case#: 2050542).'
The Site List reveals no contaminated sites within a one mile radius of the property.
Monitoring wells were installed northeast of the property that have been closed-in. It is
assumed these wells were checking for impact to aquifers from the 2003 petroleum spill.
Groundwater gradient flow is generally regarded to be in a northeast direction, thus the
monitoring well locations. There are'no upgradient referenced contaminated sites, and any
contaminated sites substantially upgradient from the property may be considered too far
and extremely unlikely to impact it. However, this does not preclude contaminated
groundwater from flowing under the subject property from an unknown source.
§3.2 Description of all past on-site potential and/or known above and/or below ground sources of
contamination identified on the property include: 1.) There is no record of there being an above
ground or underground permitted fuel storage tank(s)(ASTs/USTs) on the property. 2.)There is
a large basin that was excavated near the SWC of the property, with the spoils deposited on the
property directly to the south. The purpose of this basin is unknown, but may have had to do
with the Chevron petroleums ill. Several discarded items are in and around this basin, including
numerous waste tires. Anoth. observation of a soil depression was in the extreme NEC where it
appears the"fishing hole" located. No on-site hazardous materials were observed. 3.)
There are no electrical 'sformers on the property.
Page -4-
Chesney Consulting
