Box 388
Stockton, CA 95202--0388
SUBJECT: LANDFILL GAS MONITORING AT THE CORRAL HOLLOW SANITARY LANDFILL
SWIS#39-AA-0005
Dear Mr. McClellon:
On June 2lst, 2000, staff of the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) conducted a
site visit at the Corral Hollow Sanitary Landfill. The purpose of the site visit was to observe conditions
at the site that would otherwise jeopardize the integrity of the landfill cover, the gas system and drainage
and erosion control systems.
During our site visit, we did not observe any apparent drainage/erosion problems and cracks or
settlement at the site. However, based on a round of gas monitoring performed by CIWMB staff on
June 21, 2000, as well as the latest gas monitoring results submitted by the County of San Joaquin,
Department of Public Works (DPW), we believe that the site has been and continues to suffer from
landfill gas migration. Gas concentration as high as 57.7% and 38%have been detected by DPW's staff
and CIWMB's staff respectivelly. The gas monitoring probes#1, 2, 3, and 6 were detected with gas
concentrations greater than the regulatory threshold of 5%by volume at the facility boundary. The
following table shows the result of our gas monitoring:
Probe Depth C114 (% volume) 02 (%)
Number
1 Shallow 0.8 20.7
1 Intermediate 9.1 8.5
1 Deep 33.0 4.9
2 Shallow 13.0 15.3
2 Intermediate 33.0 6.6
2 Deep 38.0 4.4
3 Shallow 7.7 16.6
3 Intermediate 22.0 4.8
6 m 3 De 12.0 0
California Environmental Protection Agency
Printed on Recycled Paper
