GEOMATRIX
initiated a preliminary soil and groundwater investigation at the property in accordance with the
CTA(Geomatrix, 2002b). ChevronTexaco submitted a work plan (Geomatrix, 2003b), which
was subsequently approved by the RWQCB (2003b).
3.1 INVESTIGATION OBJECTIVES AND APPROACH
ll In October 2003, Geomatrix conducted a preliminary soil and groundwater investigation at the
_J
Arcos property. The primary objective of the investigation was to identify areas of potential
environmental concerns pertaining to the former pump station. The field investigation was
developed based on results of previous and recent investigations conducted at the Bellini
property. Sampling locations are shown on Figures 2 and 5. Specific objectives and approach
of the preliminary investigation are summarized as follows:
J • Idente;fy areas of potential environmental concerns pertaining to the former pump
J station (Section 3.2). Historical aerial photographs and site plan were reviewed,
and a geophysical survey was conducted to locate pertinent underground features
l that may be associated with the OVP or other pump station operations.
J • Evaluate current property conditions (Section 3.2.3). An aerial and land survey
was performed. A site reconnaissance was conducted to record existing property
conditions.
• Assess areas of potential environmental concerns pertaining to the former pump
_l station (Section 3.3.1). Borings were advanced to a depth of approximately 50 feet
I bgs at locations of former pump station features based on the results of the
geophysical investigation and a review of historical site map and aerial photographs.
-I Selected soil samples were analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents as well
as metals.
• Assess groundwater quality (Section 3.3.2). Grab groundwater samples were
collected from borings AS13-1, ASB-5 through AS13-8, and ASB-10 through
ASB-12 to assess the presence of petroleum constituents in groundwater.
( • Assess water quality in the on-site water supply well (Section 3.3.3). Geomatrix
collected a sample from the on-site water supply well to assess the water quality.
The sample was analyzed for petroleum hydrocarbon constituents as well as some
inorganics.
3.2 FOCUSED SITE ASSESSMENT
A review of the historical site map and aerial photographs, the geophysical survey, and an
evaluation of current property conditions are described in the following three sections.
; l
1:1PROJECI\500051501LOOM]1.03.d. 11
