Geological Technics Inc. Pap
35500-Welty Road,Vernalis,CA
Report-Frellminary Environmental Site Assessment
Project No.248.2
February 6, 1995
Road/Highway 33 intersection consists of farmland. It is unknown as to
what usage these off-site areas were put to in 1937.
• The 1952 map delineates similar type structures to that of the 1937 map.
Only two of the oil storage cylinders remain south of the Property. Many
of the structures appear to still be present on the Property, however, it is
likely that at this time, the aerial photos are showing only the foundations
of buildings, and not existing structures.
2.3 Onsite Reconnaissance
Geological Technics Inc. personnel visited the Property on January 9, 1995 for
the purposes of delineating areas for borehole investigations and discovering
surface and sub-surface manifestations of the old Standard Oil pipeline and
pumping facilities. The following observations were made:
Subject Property
The Property consists of a vacant field with piles of eucalyptus stumps
interspersed across it. There are several abandoned trucks and other debris
including a large burn pile on the property to the south. There is also one
dwelling on the property to the south.
There was evidence of several buildings found with the metal detector
and digging. Remnants of the old buildings were all that remained-
mainly piping, rebar and other debris mostly just under the subsurface.
* The foundation of what is presumed to be the old Standard Oil pumping
facility was found on the southeastern Property margin, straddling that
property line. There was evidence of two possible product pipes present;
one actually exposed* to the northern margin of the pad, trending in an
east by southeast direction and the other trending along the strike of the
western margin of the pad. This pipe was not directly evidenced, but red
casing brick was found along this line of strike (See Figure 2, Site Map for
more details).
*Reference was made to removal of the piping by Chevron,in correspondence between Chevron
and Domer J.Olsen,Inc.personnel.
Adjacent Land Usage
The land is bordered to the northeast by the Southern Pacific Railroad
right-of-way which includes the Southern Pacific product pipeline. To the
north of this is Highway 33. Each of the four corners of the Welty
Road/Highway 33 intersection is occupied by the following:
