31 March 2008
AGE-NC Project No. 98-0500
installed at the outlet of the air compressor for added controls. Aboveground piping will be installed
were appropriate to reduce construction costs, utilizing the same configuration presented above.
The locations of the proposed SVE/IAS piping network expansion and SVE unit are illustrated in
Figure 4. A 30-foot chain-link gated enclosure of the east side the building is located west of the
former dispenser area, to secure the SVE unit and IAS associated equipment; the current location
of the gated enclosure is illustrated in Figure 4.
2.5. SOIL VAPOR EXTRACTION SYSTEM START-UP PERIOD
After installation of the additional SVE well, AGE will conduct a start-up period (first week of
operation)in which operational parameters(air flow,combustion temperature,volume of processed
vapor) will be monitored daily. To ensure optimal destruction of recovered hydrocarbon vapors
during the SVE start-up period, vapor samples will be collected on a daily basis from the influent
and effluent ends of the SVE unit and submitted to a California Department of Public Health
(CDPH)-certified laboratory for analysis for:
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as gasoline (TPH-g) in accordance with EPA
Method 8015 Modified,
• Total petroleum hydrocarbons quantified as diesel(TPH-d)in accordance with California Air
Resources Board(CARB)TO 17 and EPA Method 8015 Modified
• Volatile aromatics (benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene and xylenes: BTEX) and
1,2-dichloroethane in accordance with EPA Method 8260, and
Laboratory reports for vapor analysis, testing methods, laboratory quality assurance/quality control
(QA/QC)reports,and sample chain of custody documentation will be presented in monthly reports
2.6. OPERATION, MONITORING AND MAINTENANCE ACTIVITIES
In order to maximize the efficiency of the clean-up effort, a 24-hour/day operation of the system is
planned.A typical destruction rate of greater than 95%of hydrocarbon vapors is expected throughout
the entire cleanup duration. After the initial start-up period, vapor influent and effluent
concentrations and operational parameters will be monitored on a weekly basis to ensure optimal
destruction of recovered hydrocarbon vapors and to monitor cleanup progress. In addition, the SVE
system will be maintained on a weekly basis according to manufacturers recommendations (i.e.
lubrication, oil changing, system adjustments, etc.).
Advanced GeoEnvironmental,Inc.
