Health and Safety Plan, Subsurface Investigation
Potential New Court Site, Stockton, California
containers. Potable water containers will be properly identified in order to distinguish them from
non-potable water sources
Non-Potable Water - Non-potable water cannot be used for drinking or washing purposes, but
may be used for non-hygiene-related activities. All containers of non-potable water will be
marked with a label stating:
Non-Potable Water
Not Intended for Drinking Water Consumption
Washing Facilities: Employees will be provided washing facilities (e.g., buckets with water and
Alconox) at each work location. Personnel will be required to clean hands and face using water and hand
soap (or similar substance) when exiting from the work area, prior to breaks, and at the end of daily work
activities.
4.3.4 Buddy System
All field personnel shall use the buddy system when working within any controlled work area. Personnel
belonging to another organization onsite can serve as "buddies" for Earth Tech personnel. Under no
circumstances shall an Earth Tech employee be present alone in a controlled work area.
4.4 Site Control
Controlled work areas will be established to protect personnel and non-personnel in the vicinity from any
work-related hazards. The extent of such an area will be sufficient to ensure that personnel located at
and beyond its boundaries will not be affected in any substantial way by hazards associated with drilling
and sampling. To meet this requirement, the following minimum distances will be used:
Direct Push Drilling Activities - A distance of 20 feet in all directions will be cleared from the
rig.
Hand Augering - A distance of 10 feet will be cleared in all directions from the sampling location
in order to accommodate additional sampling equipment.
Decontamination - Thirty feet will be cleared in all directions from the decontamination location,
where practical, for large efforts (e.g., vehicle and drilling equipment) conducted at a
decontamination pad. For personal and small parts decontamination conducted at the work
location, decontamination will occur within the applicable exclusion or contamination reduction
zone established for that operation.
Project 104290.19.01 13 January 2009
