Health and Safety Plan, Subsurface Investigation
Potential New Court Site, Stockton, California
All instruments will be calibrated on a daily basis in accordance with the manufacturer's written
procedures for each device. Calibration information for each instrument will be recorded in the site log.
6.3.2 Monitoring Procedures for DPT Drilling Activities
Volatilized petroleum hydrocarbon fuel compounds may be encountered during drilling work.
Monitoring for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) will be conducted whenever drilling operations are
in progress. Table 1 provides the necessary guidance, as well as the appropriate response procedures
based on on-site readings.
6.3.3 Monitoring Procedures for Groundwater Sampling
The monitoring procedures shown below will be followed during all groundwater sampling activities.
Any boring used for the collection of groundwater grab samples will be allowed to ventilate for a
minimum of 5 minutes upon completion, then monitored for VOC concentration using a HD. A reading
in excess of 100 ppm will require additional ventilation, followed by re-monitoring. If an acceptable
VOC concentration in the breathing zone area cannot be reached within 30 minutes of boring completion,
seal the boring and contact the SH&EP for guidance (see Table 2 for guidelines).
6.4 Personal Protective Equipment Requirements
General requirements for the use of personal protective equipment by Earth Tech and subcontractor
personnel may be found in Earth Tech Environmental Practice Standard SH&E 113, Personal Protective
Equipment. Requirements for HAZWOPER-specific protective equipment ensembles are found in
Section 3.0 of Earth Tech Environmental Practice Standard SH&E 301, Hazardous Waste Operations.
Copies of both procedures may be found in Attachment B.
In addition, specific personal protective equipment requirements are specified on a task-specific basis in
the individual THAs found in Attachment A.
Project 104290.19.01 21 January 2009
